The subject of this site, and how it is funded
FishVerdict is an independent editorial site about fishing tackle — what holds the line: spinning, carp, feeder, pole, fly, surf and boat rods — what stores and gives it: spinning, baitcasting, freespool and fly reels — the line itself: monofilament, braid and fluorocarbon leaders — what goes on the end: hard lures, soft lures, spoons, jig heads, pilkers, hooks, floats, leads, swivels, wire traces and ready-tied carp rigs — what finds the fish or announces it: fish finders, underwater cameras, bite alarms, rod pods and bait boats — what receives it: landing nets, unhooking mats, keepnets, scales and pliers — what is worn in the water: waders and buoyancy aids — what carries and holds: rod rests, boat rod holders, tackle boxes, tackle bags, rod holdalls and gloves — and what is used up: method feeders, groundbait and boilies. It does not cover aquarium equipment, pond and pool nets, or camping tents and sleeping bags, which are covered elsewhere; nor licences, close seasons or catch limits; nor anything presented as advice on whether a particular fish may be taken from a particular water on a particular day. Lengths, casting weights, test curves, line diameters, breaking strains, reel sizes, gear ratios, hook sizes, feeder weights, newton ratings, capacities, piece counts, stated loads and masses published by manufacturers are reported as such, with their unit written as published, with their source named, and never derived by us. In particular, a test curve and the size of a fish are reported as the two different things they are, and the first is never presented as the second. Nothing here replaces a manufacturer's own instructions, the servicing an automatic lifejacket needs, the standard printed on a label, or the rules of the country and the water you are on — and two statements are repeated on every page that touches them: a published figure describes a product measured against an assumed user, and is never presented here as advice about what a particular angler needs; and no buoyancy aid, no lifejacket, no wading belt and no boat holder is described on this site as making anything safe.
